For Good

Through Benevolink

Since 2007, UMUMR has partnered with nonprofit and for profit housing developers in predevelopment planning and community organizing work for 388 units of workforce affordable, rental and for-sale, housing in two Richmond neighborhoods. These projects have been tabled in response to the economic decline and limitations in project financing; however, new opportunities are continually being explored.

UMUMR serves on several housing-related planning and policy-making councils, committees and networks to keep informed of and to inform UMUMR constituencies about affordable housing work and to seek development opportunities in the Metro Richmond area.  Among the groups on which UMUMR participates are; the Executive Directors Network of Richmond homeless services providers , Governor Kaine’s Prisoner Reentry Policy Academy Subcommittee for Financial Obligations Housing, Financial and Community Resources , the Richmond Prisoner Reentry Council, and the HUD Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives Unlocking Doors Workgroup.

As financing and housing sites become available, and development partners are identified, UMUMR will pursue these opportunities to build neighborhoods (community development) through the development of affordable housing.
